John Donaldson is Chief Director of Biodiversity Research, Assessment and Monitoring at the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and is the Harold Pearson Professor of Botany at the University of Cape Town. He manages a diverse biodiversity science programme responsible for: understanding, assessing and reporting on the status of biodiversity; monitoring and reporting on the status of invasive species; and providing the science evidence base to support biodiversity policy and regulations. Amongst other roles, he is Chair of the Scientific Authority of South Africa which provides scientific oversight of wildlife trade and advises on issues relating to species listed on the CITES and/or Threatened or Protected Species regulations.
