Abstract
This is an overview of the trends and statistics of illegally killed rhino in South Africa and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), where rhino poaching is escalating at an alarming rate. The presentation then focuses on interventions applied through the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Rhino Security Intervention Plan funded by Treasury through the Provincial MEC. The multi-disciplined Strategy and adoption of Standard Operating Procedures in Ezemvelo Protected Areas and Private and Communal Land has reduced the rate of rhino poaching in KZN relative to the rest of the country.
