Conservation planning, monitoring, biodiversity status assessment, state of biodiversity assessment and reporting, management effectiveness assessment and adaptive management are widely seen as essential but unrelated conservation activities. This presentation describes the adaptive management process, and then illustrates with current examples, the critical linkages between these activities. Successful conservation must employ all of these tools in an integrated manner if the power of adaptive management is to be realised.
